Too Old (No, really)

So three years ago I somehow pinched my sciatic in my left leg. I suspect it was slouching and poor posture. The last soccer game I played before going on vacation, I injured myself in three different places: left ankle, right knee, left hip/back. I fell full force on my hip and lower back and it has hurt ever since. On the 24th of July I decided to go skiing so I could at least say I did this year at the cabin. When my father-in-law pulled me out of the water, I pulled my lower back muscles, making the trifecta of injuries complete. I can usually recover from pulled back muscles in a few days, but my sciatica has flared up and my hip seems to be playing a major part as well. Anyway, unlike my father (so far), I can still make an appt. and go to the doctors on my own, which I did. Step one of course is Motrin and muscle relaxer. Once it fully gets in my system we will see how effective it is. But as for my soccer playing days, for the type of soccer I play, I am too hard on my body and not in good enough soccer shape to keep it up the way I am going, so I am pulling out. One season back in it was enough for sentimentality reasons. It was a great reunion, but soccer and I have to part ways.
It is interesting that as I am enjoying no mobility, Andy seems to be enjoying knee pain again, and Bryan seems to be enjoying stomach pain again. Not to mention mom going in for surgery soon.
Besides my whining about unbearable pain, our family did enjoy our vacation to our cabin in West Yellowstone with Sarah's family. Being a wet year, the mosquito's were unbelievably horrible, but we refused to stay inside. We also were able to pour our basement floor in with concrete, so it is ready for walls and a bathroom. Next year we are taking the truck instead of the minivan. It will be much nicer on the off roads, going spotting, pulling the boat if I need to, and everything else besides the actual road trip, but we will manage.

Another day

We are four games away from the end of the regular season for outdoor soccer. It took me a whole season to get back in my groove, and now that I have come back after a ten-year hiatus, I feel that soccer and I may be saying goodbye. I hate to say it, but it was the hardest thing to get back into 'soccer shape'. We lost our first game yesterday, playing a young, speedy club team who have been playing together. I played midfield for the first time on this team and loved it. I have started to become more agressive, getting back into my game, which feels good.
The fam is doing well. Connor loves to get on my nerves. Sarah swears either she doesn't speak his language, or he doesn't speak ours. Either way, he has an annoying knack for not listening to mother. Orson is reinforcing his signature of being tender-hearted. He loves his sister, he loves giving loves, and he couldn't be a sweeter boy. Tensley has found a new way to be cute, even when she is ornery. She makes this strained face while looking upwards. She could either be in a good mood or bad when doing this, which makes it even better.
Sarah is excited for the cabin. We experimented with our dutch oven this last weekend and reinforced our tentative plans on making a dutch oven mountain man breakfast for a dinner while we are there. She is always cooking and baking and trying to improve which makes me the proud husband of the best chef known to any 28 year old out there.
Every year Larry does this epic mountain bike ride at the cabin, and I am the most reliable tag-along. 2007 brought a new bike to my door for this which also brought disc brakes which are new to me as well. With those gone haywire and a couple loose screws which I can't even locate, I took it into the shop, something I consider a last resort, since I can fix most problems on my bikes. I can't believe I even admit this on here.
The attached pics are random pictures I took while Orson thought he would be cute by wearing my headband.

First actual "Blog"....whatever that means...

So here we are in South Dakota, doing whatever we do in a windy state on an air force base. My (Dallin) promotion finally came so we are enjoying a little extra pay which is nice. We are slowly getting ready for the W. Yellowstone cabin trip which is always something we look forward to. I have been biking regularly, and Sarah is into these Marcia Lynn McClure books.
Besides what keeps us occupied when we find spare time, Our three energetic kids keep us busy. Connor starts preschool this fall, Orson is slowly starting to form sentences, and Tensley is just growing up too fast with her second tooth coming in and she is starting to crawl. Yes I know, not crawling until 10 months is heaven-sent, but when development progresses so quickly with any child this young, she is growing too fast.
I get a break from school until October since the money the Air Force gives me ran out until the new fiscal year which starts in October. I opted not to dip into my MGI Bill. I may be able to hold onto it for a more opportune moment in my, or one of my dependents lives since they opened it up to be able to use it on family, and increased it to 80 grand.
This is very broad and general as a blog, but it is our first, hopefully as I continue they will get better. Happy time wasting on the net!

MapMyRide

MapMyRide

I think it would be nice if I could map and log my rides, and maybe even view some other riders rides as well. Anyway, this is my first attempt to map mapmyride to my blog, wish me luck...
